About Global Team Desk

Global Team Desk publishes practical guides for employers in Switzerland, Germany and Austria that want to hire or pay someone in another country. It is an independent publication operated from Switzerland. The operator is named in the legal notice.

What the guides help you decide

Each guide works through the decisions an employer usually faces before hiring abroad:

  • which hiring model fits: employing through your own entity, using an Employer of Record, or engaging a contractor
  • what each model typically involves, such as registration, payroll, social insurance and employment contracts
  • where the main risks sit, for example misclassification or creating a taxable presence abroad
  • which questions to take to a lawyer, tax adviser or provider before you commit

Who it is for

The guides are written for founders, managers and people in HR or finance at small and mid-sized companies that do not have an international employment specialist in-house. They take the employer's point of view. People on the worker side may find the background useful, but the guides do not address their individual position.

Scope

Every guide starts from an employer based in Switzerland, Germany or Austria and states at the top which hiring countries and assumptions it covers. Some guides treat a single country, others a group such as EU countries or non-EU countries. The Hiring Map shows which routes published guides currently cover. All guides are available in English and German with the same content.

Sources and verification dates

Guides rely first on official sources: legislation, government agencies, tax authorities and social insurance institutions. Each guide lists its sources and shows the date they were last checked. If a guide's sources have not been rechecked for more than a year, the page shows a notice that it may be out of date.

Where a statement could not be confirmed against an official source, the guide either hedges it or points you to the authority that can answer it, rather than presenting it as settled.

Corrections

If you spot an error, an outdated rule or a broken source link, please write to [email protected]. It helps to include the page address and, if you have one, the source that shows the correct position. Confirmed errors are corrected in both language versions.

Funding

Global Team Desk is funded through an affiliate relationship with Deel, an Employer of Record and payroll provider. If you become a Deel customer through a marked affiliate link, Global Team Desk may earn a commission. The site carries no display advertising and no sponsored articles.

Affiliate links are marked and limited in number. They do not decide which hiring model a guide recommends: where an Employer of Record is not a good fit, guides say so and describe other options. Details are on the affiliate disclosure page.

Limits of general guidance

The content is general information, not legal, tax or financial advice. Global Team Desk is not a law firm or a tax adviser. Employment, tax and social insurance rules differ by country and change, and the right answer for you depends on facts a general guide cannot know, such as where the work is performed, for how long, and under which contract. Please check your situation with a qualified professional in the relevant country before acting.
